Bugs Essential OilsHow to keep your home insect-free with Clear Scents essential oils

The spring season and warmer weather usually signals the end of winter, and that gives people much to be happy about. However, the changing temperature also brings out one thing we’re less fond of: Bugs.

Did you know that certain essential oils contain natural properties to help repel insects? Chemical store-bought sprays can not only be hazardous to your health and your pets, but they are expensive as well.

Clear Scents lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass essential oils are all great picks to keep your home free of pesky insects. Repeated applications will not only help keep them away, but keep your home smelling fresh, too.

Try this simple blend of common, natural household ingredients to help keep the bugs away:

Natural Insect Repellent

  • 2 to 4 ounces of distilled or boiled water
  • 1.5 ounces of witch hazel or vodka
  • 30 to 50 drops of Clear Scents lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint or lemongrass oil
  • Shake the bottle well to mix all the ingredients

Tip: Always try to avoid contact with your eyes or mouth when spraying, and shake the bottle again before each use.

You can add more or less essential oil depending how strong you would like the scent to be. Another thing also worth trying is mixing some different oils for some various refreshing fragrances. Once you have these ingredients mixed in a spray bottle, generously spray the mixture around baseboards, doorways, and tiny cracks and crevices where you might find bugs (namely spiders.) You are likely to enjoy the scent, but they sure won’t!

Especially relevant is everyone’s favourite: Mosquitoes. Apply this blend to your skin or on top of clothes for a light, natural scent, and as a result, you will spend less time fighting off mosquitoes and more time just enjoying the outdoors.
